Elderly man killed in Karnataka as dispute over cart road turns fatal
Karnataka police said that 60-year-old Adiveppa Uddanakalu succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the fight, on 16 July.

One person was killed
and more than ten injured when a violent clash broke out between two families
on 15 July over a dispute regarding a cart road in Byagavadi village of Hangal
taluk in Haveri district.
Karnataka police said
that 60-year-old Adiveppa Uddanakalu succumbed to the injuries he sustained
during the fight, on 16 July, at the district hospital. The other injured
people are undergoing treatment.
Malatesh NingappaKamer, a resident of the village, was accused of encroaching upon a cart road
adjoining his agricultural land, police said. Villager Uduchappa Uddanakalu had
begun a campaign to remove the alleged encroachment, and preparations were
underway to conduct an official land survey.
On the evening of 15
July, a fight broke out between members of the Vaddar community, who had come
in support of the Kamer family, and the Uddanakalu family. Both sides allegedly
attacked each other with sticks and clubs. Police said that one of the accusedallegedly drove a Tempo Traveller vehicle into the crowd, which ran over
Adiveppa.

members alleged that they had been subjected to violence over the land dispute
and sought strict action and compensation.
